The New York Yankees already landed the biggest prize of the offseason on Saturday in Giancarlo Stanton, who they acquired in a trade with the Miami Marlins. But that's far from the only move the Yankees will make this offseason, as they've been heavily linked to Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado With the Winter Meetings here, more moves will be on the way. Here are all the latest Yankees news & rumors you need to know:
Yankees want to keep CC Sabathia
CC Sabathia has met with a couple of teams, namely the Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays, over the past few days, but the Yankees are still hoping to re-sign him (preferably on a one-year deal). New manager Aaron Boone has stated as such, and general manager Brian Cashman expanded on their pursuit of the 37-year-old.
“I’ll just say that I’ve talked to CC’s agent,” Cashman said. “I haven’t talked to CC directly and I’ve had several convos with him. I’ll leave it at that. he’s been a great performer for us and there may very well be a chance for us to continue working together. may not. It’s a business on both ends. There’s nothing that I can report on, obviously, he’s certain of interest. But because of who he is and what he’s continued to do, he’s of interest elsewhere, too.”
Sabathia went 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 27 starts last season.
New York expects Gleyber Torres to be on Opening Day roster
The Yankees have holes at both second base and third base with last year's starters no longer on the roster, which is part of the reason why they're interested in Machado (would fill the need at third base).
However, instead of trading for a second baseman, New York is expected to promote top prospect Gleyber Torres and have him be the starter, according to Brendan Kuty of NJ.com.
I’m getting the impression more and more that Gleyber Torres very well could end up the Yankees’ Opening Day second baseman. He’s a natural shortstop, and the Yankees have holes at second base and third base, but team personnel believe the 21-year-old profiles better at second base.
Torres would be taking over for Starlin Castro, who was traded to the Marlins as part of the Giancarlo Stant trade.

Torres was nearly promoted to the Yankees last season
However, some front office members wanted to speed up the process for Torres even more. Cashman revealed that many within the organization wanted Torres on the Opening Day roster last season.
“Our major league staff wanted him ‘now.’ They wanted him to break camp and then play him at shortstop,” Cashman said Wednesday at the Winter Meetings. “We just felt it was important for him to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run, and I didn’t want him drinking out of a fire hose in April. So I took my time, and I think it was the right move for him and for us.
“The way his trajectory was going, I think you would have seen him in the big leagues last year at some point in the end. You may very well have seen him as the DH or third baseman. It may have prevented us from trading for Todd Frazier.”
Torres played in both Double-A and Triple-A last season, hitting .287 with seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 55 combined games.
