Yankees Offseason Makes Mets Co-Owner Fred Wilpon Upset
The Yankees offseason has been great, landing National League home run leader Giancarlo Stanton earlier this month and the team continues to be active in the free agent market. According to The New York Post, that movement has Mets co-owner Fred Wilpon upset.
“Fred is pissed every time the Yankees make a move,” said a person who speaks to Wilpon regarding baseball matters. “And he always seems surprised.”
Wilpon believes such an economic model is “unsustainable,” according to a source, a sentiment he has held for several years as the Yankees have made blockbuster acquisitions.
This reaction shouldn't surprise us all too much considering he had a similar reaction back in 2004 when the Yankees traded for star Alex Rodriguez.

Gerrit Cole Likeliest Destination
According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to trade pitcher Gerrit Cole within the next week, and the Yankees are his most likely destination.
The Yankees at this point are the likeliest destination for Gerrit Cole, but if that falls through, sources believe Pittsburgh is highly motivated to trade him. Likelihood Cole moves is very strong.

Cole is coming off his worst season — 12-12 with a 4.26 ERA in 33 starts - but has the upside to be a reliable front-end starting pitcher. Cole was the No. 1 overall selection by the Pirates in the 2011 draft and won't turn 28 until September. If Cole joins the Yankees, he would join a pitching rotation with CC Sabathia, Masahiro Tanaka, Sonny Gray, and Luis Severino.
Ellsbury To The Giants?
The New York Yankees have been looking into trading outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury this offseason, and the San Francisco Giants are working to acquire him, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports.
Ellsbury could fit in as the Giants' center fielder, whereas with the Yankees he seems destined to be the fourth outfielder, as Yankees people say they are going with Aaron Hicks in center field. Ellsbury lives in the Phoenix area, so the Giants' spring home in Scottsdale would be a plus for him, too.
The 34-year-old played in 112 games last season and batted.264 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs. The Giants finished with the second-worst record in baseball last season and while trying to get Ellsbury with his $68.4M contract may seem questionable, the Giants believe they need to win now.
