Astros Interested in Gerrit Cole
All off-season Cole has been linked to the Yankees and many believed the most likely destination for Cole was the Bronx. According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Houston Astros have engaged the Pirates on a potential trade for Cole.
This report stems from Astros general manager Jim Craine saying that Houston expects to add a "high-end starter" before going to spring training.
Passan says Houston has presented outfielder Derek Fisher in a possible return package for Cole, but also noted that one of Forrest Whitley or Kyle Tucker - the Astros' top two prospects - would probably have to be included.
C.C. Sabathia Innings Pitched Bonuses
Yankees pitcher C.C. Sabathia signed a one-year deal worth $10 million this off-season. This is a massive pay cut from his $25 million he earned last season where he went 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 27 starts.
Despite the pay decrease, Sabathia can earn bonuses for pitching 155, 165, 175, and 185 innings. The 37-year-old will earn $500K for each inning milestone he hits. Sabathia hasn't pitched 185 innings since 2013 when he tossed 211.
Todd Frazier Talking To Mets
The Score reported free agent infielder Todd Frazier confirmed he met with both the Yankees and New York Mets.
"We’ve had contact with the Yankees, my agent, Brodie (Van Wagenen), has done a great job. I love playing for the Yankees," Frazier told Kevin Kernan of the New York Post. "It was such a fun time for me. We just came up short. We had a really good squad, and they are going to be really good again."
As for the Mets, Frazier confirmed, “That’s another team we’ve had contact with. The communications we’ve had with them has been great, and it has been communications with a lot of teams, not to just pinpoint one or two teams.’’
Frazier hit .222 with 11 home runs and 32 RBIs in 66 games with the Yankees in 2017 and would be a great fit for the Mets who need offense.
