With spring training upon us, the New York Yankees are more than ready to go into the 2018 season with the current roster. However, they haven't stopped looking for help, particularly when it comes to their starting rotation.
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Yankees are still contemplating adding another starting pitcher.
The Yankees are still weighing some rotation help. "(Yankees GM Brian) Cashman is a bargain hunter," one person with Yankees ties said. That person predicted the Yankees would add someone.
Jake Arrieta, Alex Cobb, and Lance Lynn are all quality starters that are still available on the free agent market.
New York has expressed in Cobb since the beginning of the offseason and were also in the race to sign Yu Darvish, but after trading for Giancarlo Stanton, they didn't have enough space under the luxury tax threshold to sign Darvish.
New York is hoping to stay below that threshold ($197 million) in anticipation of spending big on a loaded free agency class next offseason, and they have roughly $24 million still available under that threshold.

Now, they are hoping that they can get a pitcher, likely Cobb, for a bargain.
Cobb was solid last year for the Tampa Bay Rays, posting a 3.66 ERA and a 1.221 WHIP in a career-high 179.1 innings of work. For his career (which has featured injuries), Cobb has a posted a 3.50 ERA and a 1.217 WHIP.
Both the Washington Nationals and Philadelphia Phillies have expressed interest in Arrieta, while Lynn has been linked to the Minnesota Twins.
