The New York Yankees might be without starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia for an extended period of time. The MRI results on Sabathia's injured hamstring have come back and it's a Grade 2 strain.
That's not as bad as a Grade 3, which usually requires surgery, but it's not great news. A grade 2 strain can take four-to-eight weeks of recovery time, meaning Sabathia is in line to miss at least a month of baseball. The Yankees have yet to officially place Sabathia on the DL, but that's a given at this point.
If there's some good news, it's that Sabathia thinks his recovery won't take as long as a typical grade 2 strain.
"I woke up feeling a lot better than I expected," Sabathia said Wednesday. "Really, in my mind, I'm going day to day. Hopefully tomorrow I'll feel even better ... Just because of the way I feel in these early stages, it makes me feel that it won't be that long, though."
However, Yankees manager Joe Girardi implied the Yankees won't rush Sabathia back.
"He'll be ready when he's ready. I think that's the bottom line," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Wednesday. "As a pitcher, it's a little bit trickier just because they can't throw for a while. We'll try to keep his arm active in a chair, but he's not going to be able to throw his sides, so we'll see."

Sabathia was in the midst of a great, bounce-back year before leaving Tuesday with the injury. In 13 starts this year, he has a 7-2 record and a 3.46 ERA.
