Clint Frazier Headed To Disabled List?
The Yankees place outfielder Clint Frazier on the 7-day disabled list today due to a concussion he sustained on February 26th.
Frazier suffered the concussion while attempting a diving catch back and is still dealing with post-concussion symptoms. It's unclear when the 23-year-old will be ready to roll, but for now, the Yankees are taking their time with him. he might be ready. Once he returns expect him to start with Yankees' affiliate Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Frazier played in 39 games in 2017 for the Yankees, batting .231 with four home runs and 17 RBIs.
Jacoby Ellsbury To The DL?
Heading to the 10-day disabled list is Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury. Back on March 2nd Ellsbury was scratched from a game due to tightness in his ride oblique. At first, the injury was believed to not be serious, but after almost a month the veteran is still not ready for Opening Day.
He is expected to take 40-50 at-bats between the minors and extended spring training before joining the Yankees' active roster. Ellsbury is currently the team's fourth outfielder with Aaron Hicks likely starting in center field, so expect the Yankees to ease him back in.
The 34-year-old hit .264 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs in 112 games last season.
Greg Bird Going To The Disabled List?
The last player the Yankees had to send to the 10-day disabled list today was first baseman Greg Bird. He was scratched from the Yankees lineup on Saturday after experiencing some discomfort in his troublesome right foot, the same foot he had surgery on before.
Bird underwent surgery this week to remove calcium deposit and a bone spur from his right ankle and is expected to miss the first 6-8 weeks of the regular season. The Yankees are expected to rotate between Tyler Austin and Neil Walker at first base until Bird is ready to return.
Bird has shown promise with his time in New York but has struggled to stay healthy since the 25-year-old made his debut in 2015. Bird missed all of 2016 with a torn labrum. Last season he hit .190 with nine home runs and 28 RBIs in 48 games.
