Former New York Yankee great Derek Jeter is interested in becoming a baseball owner and is involved in talks to buy the Miami Marlins. According to a report from Fox Business, Jeter is one of three potential bidders to buy the Marlins from current owner Jeffrey Loria.
Per Fox Business, Jeter has already expressed interest in buying the club. Jeter is being represented by former Morgan Stanley brokerage chief Gregory Fleming, who has his own investment firm. Former Presidential candidate Jeb Bush is also in the mix, with his group backed by Citigroup. A third group led by unnamed businessmen has the backing of Goldman Sachs.
The price of the team is expected to range between $800 million and $1.6 billion, according to Fox Business. In the end, the team is expected to go to the highest bidder.
"From what I understand whoever has the most cash will get the deal," one senior baseball executive told Fox. "And who knows what the Marlins might do in the end if they don’t get the number they want."

Loria had an agreement to sell the Marlins to Joshua Kushner, the younger brother of President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and adviser, Jared Kushner, for about $1.6 billion earlier this year. However, that deal fell through.
As for Jeter, he's been clear about his desire to own a team. Jeter has said he wants to help grow the game of baseball in the process. He currently owns a home near Tampa.
