Former All-Star shortstop Jose Reyes has cleared waivers is now eligible to be traded anywhere, and the New York Yankees are one of the teams asking the Rockies about Reyes, according to CBS Sports.
Reyes is believed to love the idea of a return to New York, saying he wants to play for a contender:
"At this point, I just want to win. No matter what people say, or whatever people think. I'm at the point in my career where I want to win. If it"s here or someplace else, I don't know. Next year, I mean, should be better. But I don't want to spend the rest of my career playing on a last-place team. When I retire, I'm going to go home and say, 'I played for what?' You know, if I don"t win anything."
However, the Yankees have a good amount of options at shortstop right now. Didi Gregorius is shortstop, and the Yankees are feeling happier about the Stephen Drew/Brendan Ryan second-base combination.
Reyes does have experience playing second base when he did so with the Mets to make room for Kaz Matsui at shortstop in 2004.
