Before the first game of the Subway Series, Aaron Boone warned that the Mets were a more dangerous team than their record said.
“Knowing they have had some struggles from a record standpoint, but anytime you go into a series knowing you’ll face [Noah] Syndergaard, [Steven] Matz and [Jacob] deGrom, you know you’re up against it a little bit. It makes for a really tough opponent and we’ll have our work cut out for us.”
Boone was right to be concerned, as Syndergaard and the Mets outdid the Yankees to open the second half of the season, with a 7-5 win in front of a sellout crowd of 47,175 in The Bronx.
