TAMPA, Fla. -- Yankees rookie catcher Gary Sanchez has reached 18 homers faster than any player in the modern era (since 1900).
Sanchez's three-run second inning homer on Wednesday allowed him to best Wally Berger of the 1930 Boston Braves. Berger needed 48 games to hit 18 homers, while Sanchez was playing in his 45th game of his career. It was Sanchez's fourth homer in his last four games.
With his RBI single in the first inning and the second inning homer, he pushed his batting average to .335 with 18 homers and 37 RBIs in 164 at-bats.
