NEW YORK -- Sonny Gray hurled six effective innings to pick up his first victory in five starts and the Yankees took advantage of a sloppy fifth inning, continuing their best 15-game stretch in two decades with a 5-2 win over the Indians on Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.
Working once again with backup catcher Austin Romine, Gray turned in back-to-back quality starts for the first time this season, striking out seven while limiting Cleveland to four hits. The Yankees won for the 14th time in 15 games, equaling a stretch compiled by the eventual World Series champions from June 24-July 12, 1998.
