Yanks stave off furious rally to edge Angels

Teixeira's two-run homer in the third inning provided some breathing room for Yankees starter Nathan Eovaldi, who worked 5 1/3 innings of one-run, four-hit ball to improve to 5-1 this season. Weaver was thumped for seven runs and nine hits in 5 2/3 frames.

Behind a four-hit night from Alex Rodriguez, the Yanks led, 8-1, going to the ninth inning, but Esmil Rogers allowed all five batters he faced to reach base, including a Grant Green infield pop that fell between Jose Pirela and Chase Headley on the right side of the infield.
