You cannot call them the greatest team ever, or the best pitching staff or the best hitters or even the best fielders in World Series history. But you can and you must call the 1996 Yankees by one name.

The team with the highest payroll in baseball proved to have an even bigger heart. And last night, the Yankees capped a season for the ages with a 3-2 victory over the Braves in Game 6 for a championship that was rejoiced by 56,375 maniacal fans at the Stadium and millions more around the world.
