Yanks release Wild Card roster; Bird left off

President of baseball operations Theo Epstein told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that Joe Maddon will return as the Cubs' manager in 2019 despite uncertainty stemming from Chicago's early postseason exit. The Cubs, who lost Monday's National League Central tiebreaker game to the Brewers, were eliminated with Tuesday night's 2-1, 13-inning loss to the Rockies in the NL Wild Card Game at Wrigley Field.

Maddon's tenure with the Cubs has been unquestionably successful. The Cubs have made the postseason in all four years with Maddon as manager, winning 90-plus games each season. They, of course, won the World Series under Maddon in 2016, the team's first in 108 years.
