NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Yankees second baseman Stephen Drew has been placed on the paternity list, and New York recalled infielder Jose Pirela from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Pirela started at second base and batted ninth Tuesday night against Philadelphia. He hit .256 with a homer and two doubles in 43 at-bats during his first stint with the Yankees this season from May 6 to June 10.
He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and grounded into a double play in the Yankees’ loss on Tuesday.
New York also recalled right-hander Bryan Mitchell from Triple-A and optioned outfielder Ramon Flores to its top farm club.
