After watching lefty reliever Jacob Lindgren reach the big leagues one year after being the Yankees’ top pick in the 2014 draft, the club used the 16th pick in the first round Monday night on UCLA right-hander James Kaprielian.
It was the highest pick the Yankees had since 1993, when they took right-hander Matt Drews with the No. 13 pick.
“It’s a good pick for the Yankees. He reminds me of Ian Kennedy,’’ former Rockies GM and current MLB analyst said of Kaprielian, a Tustin, Calif., native who was a reliever his freshman year — when the Bruins won the national championship — and a starter the past two seasons.
