Evan Longoria tied his career high with a four-hit performance, driving home the deciding run with an eighth-inning RBI single as the Rays edged the Yankees, 5-4, on Friday night at Tropicana Field.
Longoria’s fourth hit came off Tyler Clippard and drove home Derek Norris with the go-ahead run after Yankees designated hitter Matt Holliday had crushed a game-tying home run in the top half of the inning against Rays reliever Ryne Stanek.
It marked Longoria’s seventh career four-hit game, and first against the Yankees.
Tampa Bay (22-22) returned to the break-even mark after rallying for three runs in the seventh.
