As Gardner left Fenway Park following the American League Wild Card Game, the 38-year-old outfielder said he planned to discuss his future with family members.
On Thursday, Gardner declined his player option for ‘22 worth $2.3 million, and the Yankees declined his club option, making him a free agent. Gardner slashed .222/.327/.362 with 10 homers and 39 RBIs in 140 games this past season.
“This game has been great to me and great to my family,” Gardner said.
