NEW YORK -- The numbers were striking. On the mound, Nathan Eovaldi once again routinely hit 99 mph on the speed gun. In left field, Aaron Hicks fired a ball from near the warning track that traveled a record 105.5 mph, according to MLB Statcast.
The figures were scintillating, but the only numbers that really mattered from the Wednesday night were Oakland 5, Yankees 2. The A's will go for the sweep on Thursday night.
