TAMPA — Forget missing Opening Day. Luis Severino won’t be back for the Yankees until May “at the earliest,’’ according to general manager Brian Cashman.
The right-hander isn’t due to begin a throwing program until Wednesday after a two-week shutdown because of rotator cuff inflammation.
“I would say you’re looking at May at the earliest,’’ Cashman said before the Yankees faced the Red Sox at Steinbrenner Field on Friday. “He’s going to have to start from scratch and have his spring training. If it needs to be more [time missed after May 1], we’ve got to make sure we don’t have a problem with it.
