Last offseason, D.J. LeMahieu was brought to the Bronx to play as a “fifth infielder,” in case of any Yankees injuries. After all, he did not even play on Opening Day.
But he, arguably, turned out to be the 2019 Yanks’ MVP. In 145 games, LeMahieu hit .327 with a career-high 26 home runs and 102 RBIs. Not only was he valuable at the plate, but he was also able to provide stellar defense at first, second and third base.
The 31-year-old was also selected to his third All-Star Game, won his first Silver Slugger Award and finished fourth in American League MVP voting.
