If the Yankees of 2017 were a movie, they’d be Rocky, the original. The team came into the year as a young, untested group of players with more personality than we’d seen from squads of years past. They surprised most of the baseball world with their acumen and precociousness, arriving a year ahead of schedule. They then ran into the best in the world on the biggest stage in the sport.
Just like Rocky, the underdog lost. In the sequel, Rocky and Apollo have a long-anticipated rematch, and even though Creed is still the best boxer in the world, the differences between him and his challenger are much smaller.
