The Yankees have dealt Chase Headley and Bryan Mitchell to the Padres for outfielder Jabari Blash, The Post’s Joel Sherman reports.
The trade of Headley opens third base for perhaps a Todd Frazier reunion or for top prospect Gleyber Torres, who missed most of last season following Tommy John surgery, and helps the Yankees’ pursuit of getting underneath the luxury-tax threshold. Headley had two years and $26 million left on his contract. It will be a revamped infield for the Yankees, who also dealt second baseman Starlin Castro in the Giancarlo Stanton deal.
Headley had a steady, but unspectacular three and a half seasons in The Bronx, and now will return to San Diego, where he started his career in 2007.
