TAMPA — Saturday was a day for juggling when it came to the Yankees’ roster.
When it was clear that Aaron Hicks wasn’t going to be ready for the start of the season due to back problems, the Yankees began looking for a spare outfielder who can handle center field. They touted utility man Tyler Wade as a possibility, but Saturday they acquired outfielder Mike Tauchman from the Rockies in exchange for lefty Phillip Diehl.
Tauchman, 28, has minor league options remaining, but is on the 40-man roster and has a chance to be in pinstripes on Thursday when the Yankees host the downtrodden Orioles on Opening Day in The Bronx.
