BOSTON — The Yankees acquired right-handed reliever George Kontos from the Indians for cash and assigned him to Triple-A. The 33-year-old likely will replace Adams on the big league roster Sunday.
“We will know a lot more Monday,” Aaron Boone said before the Yankees’ 4-1 loss to the Red Sox Saturday at Fenway Park. “I talked to him [Saturday morning] and he felt good. I think he is planning on playing catch somewhere the next couple of days and it is his intention to make that start.
“I would say there is a decent chance he makes that start, but we will have to see how it unfolds the next couple of days.
