The Triple-A RailRiders dropped the Governors’ Cup finale on Saturday night, but good news followed shortly after the loss. With the series over, Conor Foley reports that the Yankees are calling up top prospect Justus Sheffield.
Sheffield, 22, ranks as the Yankees’ top prospect according to MLB Pipeline. That list also ranks him at number 27 on their top 100 list. Their scouting report on him is particularly impressive.
“Sheffield could have three plus pitches when all is said and done. His 92-97 mph fastball features some run and sink and is his most consistent offering, though his mid-80s slider may have more upside.
