Luke Voit will make his Yankees debut in one of the most important series of the season.
The Yankees called up the first baseman and pitcher Luis Cessa on Thursday for their four-game set against the AL East-leading Red Sox this weekend.
Voit will find himself thrown into the lineup right away, batting seventh behind Greg Bird in just his 71st career big-league game.
The 27-year-old was acquired from the Cardinals — along with international bonus money — in a trade that sent relievers Chasen Shreve and Giovanny Gallegos to St. Louis. Voit has been the primary first baseman at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the wake of Tyler Austin’s trade to Minnesota.
