Yankees surprise Mel Stottlemyre with Monument Park plaque

An already-emotional Old Timers' Day at the Stadium got even more so Saturday afternoon when the Yankees surprised Mel Stottlemyre with his own Monument Park plaque. Stottlemyre, who is battling multiple myeloma, was honored after Willie Randolph got his plaque and all the other Old Timers were introduced.

It was a moving scene, so much that it was clear the misty weather wasn't responsible for the wet eyes in the stands and on the field.

Stottlemyre, the star pitcher and former pitching coach, was choking up as he spoke, telling the crowd, "This is beyond a doubt the biggest surprise I've ever had.
