TORONTO — Aaron Boone reported Sunday that closer Aroldis Chapman’s left knee was better than it was when the bullet-throwing lefty abruptly departed Saturday’s game in the ninth inning.
“I checked in with him this morning and he says he feels better,’’ Boone said of Chapman, who has been pitching with tendinitis in his knee and felt it when he landed on the leg Saturday. “It is something that he will likely deal with most of the year. It sounds like he will probably be an option for us [Sunday], but we will see.’’
However, Boone had a chance to use Chapman to preserve a one-run lead in the ninth inning of a 2-1 victory against the Blue Jays and instead went with David Robertson, who notched the save.
