Brandon Drury may have made it to New York on Friday, but he won’t be in the starting lineup.
Despite Greg Bird’s slash line currently standing at .191/.308/.382, he will get the start against Boston left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez in the rivalry series opener.
Against lefties, Bird’s numbers drop to .071/.409/.071. After Drury was called up, it was assumed he would get time this weekend. That’s still possible — the Yankees will face lefties Saturday and Sunday in Chris Sale and David Price, respectively — but it’s surprising Aaron Boone decided to leave Bird in Friday’s lineup.
