NEW YORK — Yankees second baseman Starlin Castro enjoyed briefly catching up with one of his predecessors during Friday night's 7-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners, although the timing wasn't the best.
Robinson Cano had just singled in the go-ahead run for Seattle, then reached second a batter later when Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius booted a groundball.
"We talked briefly, but it was just a 'hi' for now," Castro told NJ Advance Media. "I have his number."
Castro plans to use it, too ... and not just to keep in touch with a fellow second baseman and countryman whom he categories as a "one of my idols.
