DETROIT — Full disclosure: When I first scanned the Yankees’ “Players Weekend” nicknames, I skipped right over Aaron Hicks’ handle.
“A-A Ron”? I figured it was just a silly way of pronouncing his first name that some of his teammates had concocted.
It was my 13-year-old son who set me straight. “It’s from Key & Peele!” he told The Post. I had actually seen the “Substitute Teacher” sketch before. In my old, dusty brain, however, I hadn’t retained it as had my mentally sharp offspring.
And that, in a nutshell, is what “Players Weekend” is all about: Making new fans.
