Yankees sound seriously worried about latest Greg Bird injury

TAMPA — The words tumbled out of Brian Cashman’s mouth easily but carried a very worrisome message.

The Yankees general manager was waiting on the results of a CT scan and MRI exam on Greg Bird’s right ankle late Saturday afternoon, but admitted he was concerned the injury-plagued first baseman’s bothersome right foot/ankle might not be right.

“I am worried about it, to be honest,’’ Cashman said of Bird complaining of discomfort in the area that required surgery a year ago and limited the sweet-swinging first baseman to 48 games. He was scratched from a game against the Braves in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
