NEW YORK — A week ago, Yankees' outfielder Slade Heathcott was in Triple-A, trying to figure his way out of a 3-for-30 slump at the plate.
Ancient history.
Heathcott was called up last Tuesday when Jacoby Ellsbury went on the 15-day disabled list with a right knee sprain and in 12 major league at-bats, Heathcott has five hits including his first home run Monday in the seventh inning against the Kansas City Royals.
"Is this real?" Heathcott said of his reaction to the homer. "I come back in the dugout, and I see a lot of the veteran guys, [Brian] McCann, CC [Sabathia], guys like that, congratulating me.
