Yankees sign Neal Cotts, assign him to Scranton

The Yankees have announced the signing of LHP Neal Cotts. He has signed a minor league contract and will report to Triple-A Scranton. The 36 year old has bounced around the majors, most recently playing for the Twins. He pitched for Houston during spring training, but was eventually cut. He had a good season in 2013, with a WHIP under 1.00, but in 2014 he struggled. Last season in Minnesota, he he posted a 3.95 ERA and a 1.4 WHIP. He’ll immediately add a veteran presence if and when he gets the call-up. He should help against left handed batters; last season lefties batted only .
