The Yankees added some potential depth for their bullpen on Thursday, picking up right-hander Jake Barrett off waivers from the Pirates.
Barrett appeared in 103 games with Arizona over the last three seasons, including 68 games in 2016. He spent most of last season with Arizona’s Triple-A affiliate in Reno. In seven games with the Diamondbacks last season, he gave up four earned runs over seven innings.
The 27-year-old Barrett was designated for assignment by the Pirates last week and the Yankees assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Ben Heller, recovering from Tommy John surgery, was moved to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man roster.
