Ruben Tejada, the infielder whose tenure with the Mets ended when he broke his leg during the 2015 playoffs, signed a minor league contract with the Yankees on Monday, according to his agent, Peter Greenberg. The deal includes an invitation to major league camp.
Tejada’s career has been on a downward trajectory since the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Chase Utley slid into him while Tejada was trying to turn a double play at second base in Game 2 of a 2015 National League division series. Tejada sustained a broken leg on the play, leading to new rules governing how players are allowed to slide into the base.
