The Yankees have refused to publicly concede the AL East to the first-place Blue Jays, but manager Joe Girardi admitted Saturday that he believes earning one of two wild-card spots – and qualifying for a one-game playoff - will be something to celebrate after missing the postseason the previous two years.
“I think so, yeah. I mean, it’s an accomplishment,” Girardi said before Saturday’s game against the White Sox. “When you go to work after the season, and you do your off-season training, and the off-season moves are made, and spring training, and the grind. Of course, it should be a celebration.
