Yankees scouting boss full of praise for SS Kyle Holder

By far, Damon Oppenheimer says, the player he got the most texts about from other scouts after the Yankees drafted him was Kyle Holder, a defensive-whiz shortstop from the University of San Diego. Most of them were some version of “how good a pick that was,” Oppenheimer said.

Oppenheimer, the Yanks’ VP of domestic amateur scouting, noted that outside reviews of the pick, No. 30 overall as compensation for losing David Robertson, centered on whether Holder can hit enough in pro ball to match his superlative glove. Oppenheimer believes Holder will.

“He hit .348, had as many walks as strikeouts, which is really important to us,” Oppenheimer said.
