TORONTO -- New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi set off the alarm. During his postgame media session, he described himself as "anxious" to find out if catcher Brian McCann had broken his left big toe.
Since the beginning of spring training, McCann has been perhaps the Yankees best hitter. He is excellent at handling a pitching staff and over the past two years has transformed into one of the game's best catchers at throwing runners out. So Girardi was worried the $85 million man would be sidelined for an extended period of time.
For now, the Yankees think McCann is fine.
