CLEVELAND — At the beginning of the season, if you were asked the name of a young right-hander who would open a critical four-game series against Indians with the Yankees attempting to avoid a double-digit deficit in the AL East standings, the prohibitive favorite would have been Luis Severino.
The 22-year-old Severino posted a 5-3 record and 2.89 ERA in 11 starts in 2015, and though he wasn’t near being a staff ace, the right-hander was being looked at to eventually be a third or fourth starter.
Chad Green?
He was one of two right-handers — along with Luis Cessa — acquired from the Tigers for 28-year-old lefty reliever Justin Wilson last December.
