Yankees Resist Toll of Dog Days, Rebuilding Division Lead Over Toronto

TORONTO — These can be the miserable days of a season, with the finish line still not quite in sight, when the daily grind of six months of baseball begins to take its toll on the body and the mind. They are called the dog days for a reason.

As Alex Rodriguez observed, it is difficult enough in your early 20s, let alone pushing 40.

So it was hard to figure that the Yankees’ 4-1 victory on a dog day Saturday afternoon was built on the feats of their old and at times infirm hounds.
