At one time the Yankees had catchers Jesus Montero, John Ryan Murphy, Austin Romine, Kyle Higashioka and Gary Sanchez together in their minor league system.
Montero was dealt to the Mariners for Michael Pineda and Murphy was moved to the Twins for Aaron Hicks. Sanchez has morphed into an All-Star, albeit one who is struggling behind the plate and with a bat in his hands these days. Romine has developed into perhaps the best backup catcher in the game and the Yankees like Higashioka, who is at Triple-A and on the 40-man roster.
Montero and Sanchez were international signings.
