Yankees reliever David Hale put on IL due to back strain

In addition to putting Luke Voit on the 10-day IL with a sports hernia that may or not need surgery, the Yankees placed right-handed reliever David Hale (back) on the IL.

Righty reliever Jonathan Holder was recalled from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre with infielder Breyvic Valera.

Hale was placed on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar spine strain, retroactive to Sunday.

“Hopefully it’s something that’s a short-term thing,’’ Aaron Boone said before the Yankees’ 7-5 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Holder has spent most of the last month with SWB after struggling in The Bronx.
