Yankees rekindle old formula as Sabathia makes All-Star case

MINNEAPOLIS — Remember the days when the Yankees lived on solid starting pitching, dominating relief and three-run home runs?

It seems like forever since Andy Pettitte provided the first, Mike Stanton, Jeff Nelson and Mariano Rivera the second ingredient and Tino Martinez the third element.

Yet, when the Yankees needed it the most Thursday night, they got it from CC Sabathia, Dellin Betances, Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman and Did Gregorius and rode it to a 4-1 must-win over the hapless Twins in front of 23,751 at Target Field.

The victory stopped a four-game losing streak and prevented the Yankees from having to answer questions about losing to the worst team in the league.
