Yankees pull Gleyber Torres early with hip tightness, will undergo MRI

Gleyber Torres is making the Yankees bite their nails for the first time this season.

The 21-year-old second baseman, who’s emerged as a legitimate American League Rookie of the Year candidate, left Wednesday’s game against the Atlanta Braves in the top of the fifth inning with right hip tightness, according to the YES Network. He will undergo a precautionary MRI.

Torres, who has been dealing with a tight right hip flexor, was scratched from Tuesday’s lineup, but he did appear as a defensive replacement later that game. On Wednesday, Torres apparently re-aggravated the injury after striking out twice in two at-bats.
