Thairo Estrada, the highly-regarded Yankees’ prospect who returned from a gunshot wound this year, will likely miss the rest of the season after suffering a back injury.
Estrada was shot during a robbery attempt in his native Venezuela last January. The bullet is still in his hip. The shortstop has also suffered wrist and hamstring injuries this season.
“I think his year is going to be — it’s going to be tough to come back from all that he’s done. And who knows whether that thing that happened during the winter was a factor or not,” Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre manager Bobby Mitchell told reporters.
