HOUSTON — The Yankees are promoting left-handed pitching prospect Justus Sheffield to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
The No. 46-overall prospect posted a 2.25 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with Double-A Trenton. Sheffield held opponents to a .163 batting average over five starts (28 innings), while his 39 strikeouts led the Eastern League.
“He’s going to continue to develop, work on the fastball command,” Yankees vice president of baseball operations Tim Naehring said on YES.
Sheffield was acquired by the Yankees in the 2016 deal that sent Andrew Miller to the Indians.
When the Astros scored a run in the seventh inning off Chad Green in the Yankees’ 6-5 win over the Astros Thursday, the Bombers’ relievers streak of 21 innings without giving up a run ended.
