The Yankees have named Alan Cockrell as their new hitting coach after he served as the team's assistant hitting coach in 2015. Marcus Thames has also been named the team's new assistant hitting coach after he spent the past three seasons as a hitting coach in the Yankees' Minor League system.
Cockrell becomes the third Yankees hitting coach in the past three years. The club parted ways with Jeff Pentland last month, while Kevin Long was dismissed following the 2014 season.
Cockrell, 52, was hired as Pentland's assistant last January, and he helped guide the Yankees' offense to 764 runs scored (second in the Majors), 212 homers (fourth), a .
