Yankees starting pitcher Bryan Mitchell was struck in the head by a line drive in the second inning at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday and immediately exited the game.
Mitchell dropped to the ground after the line drive by Twins No. 9 batter Eduardo Nunez hit him and deflected into center field. Blood was evident, flowing freely as Mitchell placed his hand to his head on the ground.
Yankees trainers immediately rushed to Mitchell’s aid. The 24-year-old right-hander walked off the field, holding a bloodied towel to his face and head. It was not immediately clear where the ball struck the pitcher, who had absolutely no time to react to the hard hit drive.
